Career is one’s occupation, profession or destiny in life.
During my childhood days, I was confused at that stage of my life over what to be in life. Although, being a brilliant child, it was very difficult for me to choose a career among multiple options.
When I look at how easy an occupation look like, I’m almost persuaded to believe that it’s my calling in life. Several times I had switch between career choices because I was looking for something that was easy with little or no stress. I once thought about becoming a civil engineer, later changed to medical practitioner, then teacher and so on.
My attention was not fixed on a single career. Even when it looks fixed on special occasions; I was tempted to follow the career choices of my friends and acquaintances.
I had never been attracted to art or commercial courses, but my attention has been revolving around engineering, sciences and medical sciences courses, looking for something simpler to go for, until when my cousin advised me to go for the best. He stated that there were no simple careers in all schools of learning and that each school has careers with peculiar difficulty.

There is about 60% of every child experiencing what I passed through. In the midst of proper guidance and counseling, the percentage can be reduced drastically.
How to make a career choice
Find your interest
That is it. That is simple. There is no stress finding what you know and can do best. Despite the fact that I studied Pure Chemistry, I like blogging and writing. It’s my hobby. Your passion is what drives you. I have no regret studying Chemistry at the University.
First thing first, know yourself. Ask yourself relevant questions like: who you are, what can I do best?, are my hands gifted?, do I know how to talk?, can I be creative?, what personal skills need improvement?, how can I solve that problem?, and what are my likes, dislikes and hobbies?.
Your interest plays a great role in determining your choice of career. Your values, soft skills and aptitudes can be turned into money making machine, so to say.
Explore professional career choice
With a pen and paper, write down a list of career choice that you like. Next, find an occupation on the list that appeal to you. You might learn something unexpected when you explore further. Find the job description and know what each job entails. Do more in-depth research on it.
Meet with people who are already established in the career of your choice. Do a job search online, even on LinkedIn, search for people or organization that offers what you are interested in. find people with similar calling or destiny. Chat up with them and build friendship or relationships with them that should last.
Get rid of any career that can’t fit into your limitation or you know that you can’t meet the requirement of the career.
Avoid the friend zone
A young girl who wants to be a medical doctor, but associates with soldiers may likely change her mind on the choice of career with time.
Any teenager or adult who want to be a Pilot should associate with people of like minds and learn more concepts in that field of study.
Career awareness talk-shows should be organized for youngsters. Get rid of any friend that will jeopardize your career. If you can’t beat them, avoid them. Do not attempt to join them or the band wagon. Your choice of career will be at risk when you mingle with people with different mindset.

Do not rush
Make sure that you know what you are doing. Do not choose a career, because you see people in it, make a proper selection in the midst of numerous opportunities.
It’s important that you avoid rushing into any type of job out there. Take enough time to think, study and plan, in other to avoid regretting your choice of career later in life.
Set your goals
Identify your long and short time goals. Once you have chosen your career, ask yourself these questions: how long will be the study time?, what are the resources needed?, how can I get these needed resources?, whom should I contact?, which higher institution of learning should I choose?, and how can I build relationship with my senior friends?.
Once you have gotten these planned questions answered, set your goals and have a target in mind.
Factors to consider in career choice
Set a target. Look at the biggest picture. Think like a great person and pursue your dreams. Plan your life and career toward the line of success.
Get ready to experience good and bad events, but don’t rest for the ordinary. Everything won’t go smoothly. Tough times will come, but be determined in the midst of it all, and stay resolute toward the mindset of success. Stay steadfast and unmovable. Funny experiences will surface, but you’ve got to set your eyes on the best in your career.
Avoid the wind
The fact that everybody is following this way does not mean that you are bound to follow that way. The story that tells the world how profitable a niche is does not mean you should follow their method of success.
Avoid the crowd. Be an authority in your own career or occupation. Get involved in activities that are peculiar to you alone. Do things that will make others to remember you. Lay down a fingerprint in that occupation of yours.
Make a living
This is the number 1 priority when choosing a career. Make money wisely, harder and smarter. Enjoy your wealth while it last. As the common saying goes, “a lazy man is the devil’s workshop”, so therefore, while you work harder, work smarter.
Add value to people’s lives
Many will not like this because they are selfish, but its necessary. Be a solution carrier, be a problem. Solver. While acting as an authority in your occupation, add value to people’s lives around you. Let the world learn something from you.
It shouldn’t be difficult for them to learn from your experience. Share your success story. Give out free gift or loans. Let people feel your impact. Organize seminars to help the young. Act as a referee for other to climb higher in their occupation. Put smiles on their faces. Use what you have to change the world for the better.
